The Salon is where we at EA Carey are able to communicate with our customers, and where the EA Carey community as a whole can interact with the wider world of pipe smoking.
Thanks James – hopefully the pipe will reach you in time for Xmas (its been despatched)! Have a great festive period and we look forward to hearing from you again in 2012!
Hi just looked at your site – I have collected pipes for 20 years smoking them on and off but have now gone full time pipe man and fully enjoying it. I will order goods off you in new year – well done great site ray
Just been using my new carey pipe, a Milano full bent apple. A nice pipe for me it is just the right size. This makes me two carey pipes and I must say that I would rather smoke Carey pipes than any other. Apparently I have another carey pipe but have been told by the wife I have to wait for santa to bring that one. I have no doubt it will be as good as the the other two. A Merry christmas and a Happy new year to you all and keep up the good work.
Received my first pipe, a Corn Cob – surprised how easy it is to smoke. First tobacco I tried was Presbyterian Mixture, enjoyed it – much nicer than my usual roll ups. I don’t know if I’m smoking too quickly or inhaling too much etc but it was a nice couple of smokes I’ve had with it so far heheh.
The test of customer service is how the supplier responds when things do not go right. A mix-up on my pipe order for a Sheer Genius Mark II meant I was sent the wrong one. A speedy response to my e-mail, returned the wrong pipe and received the correct one this morning.
No quibbles.
Excellent service.
This is my third pipe of this type so I can rotate them.
As always, a pipe is an individual choice, this one suits me very well.
Not cheap but in terms of hours of pleasure per £1, good value.
I’ve just recieved my Jean Claude pipe – very fast postage. Am extremely pleased and will certainly add EA Carey to my fav list for future ref. Thanks guys
Many of you will be aware that we donated tobacco supplies to the Scott Team taking part in the Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race. Here’s some generous recognition in their latest progress report! http://ow.ly/7Iy6M
We have just received some magnificent ltd edition pipes from Vauen which will only be available on the website but won’t appear for a couple of weeks. We have only very limited numbers so for those who can’t wait please contact us direct!
I read that our dear chancellor, Mr Osborne,is going to clamp down (close the loophole as he puts it) on those companies (Tesco/Amazon/Play.com) selling goods VAT free from the Channel Islands.
Will Carey’s be affected by this change of legislation?
Unfortunately Peter it will. I could wax lyrical about the injustice of it all, how the big players have once again ruined it for the small, independent native companies, etc, etc. The upshot is that very few of our products were ever sold below the threshold anyway so the effect will be minimal, and we are doing our best to absorb the changes where possible. Frustrating nonetheless!
Well ive had my 1st smoke of the new careys pipe, and its great, i will be returning to buy more of your pipes in the future,
many thanks & keep up the good work
Mr J Lyall
I would encourage all UK pipe smokers to write to their local MP regarding the BMAs proposed ban on smoking in a car. This is being put forward because of the health issues around smoking and not because of any argument that smoking may distract a driver.
As a regular passenger in a car, I think it should be up to the driver and not the government to decide if I should be allowed to smoke in their vehicle.
Well I’m awaitng my first Carey pipe, with a bit of luck it will be here tomorrow, been stuck smoking the same branded pipes for yrs, so i now feel its time broaden my horizons, got my eye on 3 or 4 other careys so hope i take to the new one.
Hi Mr Lyall – thanks for your comments and so pleased you are trying out a Carey pipe. I’m sure you’ll not be disappointed! Please do let us know what you think and you’ll qualify for the £10 discount voucher draw…
I doubt the future of pipe smoking with the doctors in this country (Britain) now calling for there to be no smoking in cars.
Will the next step be, no smoking out of doors? No smoking in the home?
This country is becoming a mustn’t do state where we must all be told what we must and must not do. It makes me so angry.
Its a fair point you make Alan and I’m sure there are many others out there incensed by the comments today from the BMA. I would make 2 points though… in my opinion a ban on smoking in cars would have very little impact on pipe smokers and secondly, without wanting to get too political on this, its worth reading a few of the articles appearing regarding the origin of these statistics. ‘Bunkum’ springs to mind!
We’ve recently been privy to a survey of nearly 1000 pipesmokers which contains some very interesting stats… When asked ‘How long have you been smoking a pipe?’ the joint most popular answer was ’30 years or more’ with 33%, but surprisingly the equal most popular answer was 1-9 years with another 33%. After a ‘forgotten’ generation is there a gradual return to pipes? Maybe the future of pipes is rosy after all!
Apologies to all those unable to place an online order over the weekend. This was due to a capacity issue at our web hosting company which they have now resolved, and as such everything is working properly again. Thanks for your patience!
I have four old Carey Aerosphere pipes, unfortunately the mouthpieces have all broken due to heavy wear from my strong teeth! Do you have spare mouthpieces?
Hi Mr Robey. Unfortunately we don’t have spare mouthpieces any more so I am slightly stuck for a solution. One thing we could do is try to have an alternative mouthpiece fitted for you by our repairers, but that would entail you sending the pipes to us and would be by no means a guaranteed fix. Let us know if you would like to try this route…
Hi Chris – if you click on the link to view our latest calatogue (on the Home Page) you will be presented with an electronic version. Then if you scroll through p28 you will find a list of our tobaccos with Body, Aromatic Taste and Room Note graded from 1-5 for each Tobacco. Hope that helps…
Congrats to Mr Mark Bowyer, the author of no less than 6 great reviews and the winner of this month’s £10 discount voucher for product reviewers! Enjoy…
Hi there – I assume you mean the papyrate filters for the Carey Magic Inch system? If so, yes they are. You will find them here… http://www.eacarey.co.uk/shop/carey-magic-inch-papyrate-sleeves.html
If you have moved but would still like to receive the catalogue at your new address, by clicking the ‘Request New Catalogue’ link on the top left of the Home Page you will be added to our mailing list.
We have added a few new names to the list of independant pipe makers able to produce pipes of the quality and style we require, so do let us know if you have any bespoke requirements…
Not really. The Czech is the 3 in 1 you sell.To get to the bowl through the Carey magic inch would require probably an extra 1 to 1.5 inch on the stem clearance tool.
If the bottom of the stem/bowl area is blocked, it’s difficult to clear unless you use a coat hanger wire.
Thanks Alun. Apologies for confusion – we don’t refer to its as such inhouse. I understand your issue though. One solution would be to use the shank cleaning brushes (1258K) as they are stronger/stiffer than a standard pipe cleaner and have the length you require. An alternative, but much more costly, would be the Senior Pipe Reamer (1066) which has a much longer clearance tool. We may need to look into developing something specific for the long term however. Thanks.
Hi, I already have a few pipes, but browsing through your site, i noticed you have some “10 minute” pipes, what makes them that way? Is it the size of the bowl, that makes you smoke less, or does it tend to go out after 1o mins, so you can go back to work, and relight it an hour or so later? Or was it just the way the manufacturer named it?
Hi Franc, the 10 minute pipes are so-called because they are relatively small in size and will hold enough tobacco to give you a short smoke (approx 10 mins). Perfect for breaks at work!
I’m normally a Capstan smoker, but whilst in Germany this summer I ran out, and impulsively bought some ‘Indian Summer’, largely on the basis that Indian summers are rather wonderful. Having enjoyed the tobacco, I enquired at Ipswich’s excellent tobacconists, but they were unable to stock, or suggest a close alternative. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Hi Alex, Pear wood pipes are inexpensive because it is a soft wood, the grain is not as tight as Briar and they can burn-out. Briar is a much harder wood with a dense, tight grain which will last for years if looked after well. We have some good quality Briar pipes which are inexpensive. Click here for a range which may be of interest: – http://www.eacarey.co.uk/shop/catalogsearch/result/?q=10+minute
A tobacco which would be suitable to begin with is the Carey Cavendish Mixture: – http://www.eacarey.co.uk/shop/cavendish-mixture.html
It’s mild and easy to keep lit so would be an ideal starter tobacco.
Hi David, Unfortunately Indian Summer is not available on the UK market. It was available a long time ago but proved unsuitable to British tastes. There really is nothing like it out there. Our nearest equivalent to Capstan is the Cavendish Mixture 2002: – http://www.eacarey.co.uk/shop/cavendish-mixture.html
Hi there, just thought id ask for opinions on pipes made from wood such as Pear tree – any good or no ? Reason being, i’ve seen a lot of pipes on ebay made from Pear, and they are much cheaper than the briar ones – so i am assuming they’re not as good, but having never smoked a pipe before, i dont know if i want to fork out big cash just yet. Also, any suggestions on a tobacco to try first as a “beginner” ?
Thanks.
Hi everyone
I am new to this website, but I have been a pipeman for 30 years and the proud owner of a good sized pipe collection including 15 Carey magic inch pipes.
I have been a Carey customer since the late 1980′s and I am delighted with this new website and The Salon. Great place to come and chat with fellow pipesmokers.
Pleased you approve Mr Marshall – hopefully the site will give you much satisfaction! We’d love to know which Carey pipes you have – are they still in your general rotation?
Unfortunately our site is still being copied illegally by a Chinese website. We are working with the people from Pipes Magazine in the USA to stop this illegal activity as it is not only our site it affects. If you feel strongly about this please email english@hichina.com (who are hosting these illegal sites) with your displeasure and hopefully united we can make them stop.
Good news for anyone who has struggled to input details at the checkout phase… it appears the issue was due to the latest version of Explorer (IE9), and is now fixed. Apologies for any inconvenience!
I’ve been a lapsed member for far too long now, and I’ll be joining the tobacco club again in the next week. I have to say, I’m really excited about the new Boutique Blends, and I’m keen to try 3 of these, along with a couple of the regular blends that I missed last time around. The Rum Flake and Twist, I think, are an inspired choice! You’ve done great job with the new website. It’s looking really slick, and there’s so much more information that seems to be packed into it. Praise must go to you for keeping the Pipe Smoking flag flying in these dark days, which can hopefully be forgotten for an hour or two while we let your great tobaccos calm us, as pipe smoking always does. And if this helps to promote pipe tobacco, I’ve taken to smoking my pipe outdoors in these early summer days, and have been surprised how many people have approached me recently in pub gardens – total strangers! – and told me how wonderful the smell of my pipe smoke is! Keep up the great work!
Just a note to say how impressed I am with your custom blend tobaccos. I’ve just finished a pouch of Soft Aromatic, and it was fabulous – easy-burning, tasty and, above all, fresh. I’m currently starting on the Spritzer, which looks to be equally satisfying. On reflection, joining your Tobacco Club was a good move – many thanks!
Pipe ordered cheers guys, will give a review after ive smoked the 1st bowl
Thanks James – hopefully the pipe will reach you in time for Xmas (its been despatched)! Have a great festive period and we look forward to hearing from you again in 2012!
Thanks Marcus just seen that ive won, so im going to spend it now
wish all a good xmas
Congrats to Mr JL, winner of December’s product review voucher. Happy Christmas!
Just a brief reminder that the chances of receiving items for Xmas if ordered after midday Friday are low, particularly if more snow is UK bound…
Hi just looked at your site – I have collected pipes for 20 years smoking them on and off but have now gone full time pipe man and fully enjoying it. I will order goods off you in new year – well done great site ray

What I wouldn’t mind is a Czech pipe tool long enough to get to the bottom of a Carey pipe stem?
Hi Alun – I’m not familiar with a Czech pipe tool but the simple 3-in-1 or dolphin versions we sell should do the job OK…
