Scott-Amundsen Centenary Race 2011/12

Some of you may remember the Polar Explorer pipe we commissioned for Cat 100 and sold in strictly limited numbers in celebration of the achievements of one of our customers, Mark Langridge, who walked solo and unaided to the South Pole in 2008/9.

Mark always hoped that he would be able to take his pipe with him on a return to the Pole, and recently informed us that he will be leading the Scott Team in a race to celebrate the centenary of the famous ‘dash for the South Pole’ conducted by Scott and Amundsen which is being staged from November this year.

Patronised by HRH Prince William and in aid of the Royal British Legion this race will see the two teams, completely unsupported, carry all their food, fuel and tobacco(!) requirements unaided for 70 days to the South Pole. You can read more about Mark’s adventure, and donate to their chosen charity, at his Scott-Amundsen Expedition website. We will also be keeping a close eye on proceedings and hopefully have the odd pipe smoking photo to publish once things get underway.

Good luck Mark!
