How many pipe shapes can you name…?

There is often a large amount of debate amongst pipe makers and pipe smokers alike as to the proper name for different shape pipes. Below is a simple guide to pipe shapes published by the now defunct Pipesmokers’ Council (click on the guide to enlarge if required).

It makes interesting reading in itself, the section on ‘How to help the customer make their choice’ in particular seems slightly outdated, but perhaps even more interesting is comparing it with other pipe makers’ charts… we have in our vaults a Dunhill version and a Barling version, and possibly one or two others, which we will publish in due course but between them they really do demonstrate the difficulty in defining a pipe’s shape!

So would you agree with these shapes?
